Increased funding would improve public education is a point in which Jessie Jackson stresses in his viewpoint. Jackson says, with increased funding schools can afford to buy new computers, updated textbooks, and better facilities. Without this funding Jackson believes the children who attend the schools who don’t receive increased funding will not fare as well in society as the kids who are in a school which provides every means to teach a child. Jessie emphasizes a view point by saying, “In the early years of the Republic, America led the world in providing education. It was a statement of our democracy: Every child counts.” Jessie thinks that with this increased funding to improve public education, the future of America will benefit by creating better educated workers, steering children away from crime, and a better democracy that is fair and just for every child. Jackson believes it will take a mass effort as the civil rights movement to convince the federal government that increased funding in public education is important enough to give the money.
This article relates to my question by saying, without proper funding by the federal government, the quality of the public school system cannot improve. Jackson’s view about funding by the federal government says it determines if a public school can acquire new books, computers, or a new building, which could affect the learning of a child, which would relate to my question, saying that the federal government is failing to provide a proper education to children, so why should the children go to the public schools? Jackson’s point of view also makes another point of my question, saying that if federal government would step in and provide the money needed that children could get a better education and a way to this education in turn. Jackson’s statement about the federal government’s focus on the education from when it started until the present depicts that the government has forgotten about the public education of children. Jackson’s belief that with more federal funding to our public school system, the school system will produce adults in the future, would put into perspective how important the education of children is, and why the federal government should provide the money to increase funding for public education.
